Mental Health Resources
The Constitution of Uganda, 1995 provides for the fundamental rights to equality and non-discrimination, before and under the law and all, factoring in the historical injustices, must be accorded the full and equal dignity of their persons.
Statutes such as the Domestic Violence Act, 2010 tackle rights of women and children as a vulnerable category of citizens in Uganda and the Mental Health Act 2018, highlighting the need for their protection and relief of victims of violence and for establishment for mental health treatment at primary health centres.
Gender Based Violence is any form of verbal, sexual, physical, emotional, and social-economic abuse. Once any form of abuse has occurred, people experience anxiety, post traumatic stress, depression, bipolar, addictive behaviours among others
In accordance with the Mental HealthAct, 2018, Mental health services can be defined as assessment, diagnosis, treatment, care, counselling or any intervention provided to promote emotional, psychological and cognitive well being of a person.
Mental illness is a diagnosis of mental health condition that aligns with accepted diagnosis criteria made by a mental health practitioner.
